The sealing ring is an annular seal with a gap. It is placed in the ring groove of the sleeve. The sleeve and the shaft rotate together. On the inner hole wall, it can play a sealing role. All contact surfaces are hardened and ground. The sealing ring is made of chromium-containing wear-resistant cast iron, which can be used where the sliding speed is less than 100m/s; if the sliding speed is in the range of 60-80m/s, the sealing ring can also be made of tin bronze.
Types of sealing rings:
According to different manufacturing methods and materials, the sealing ring has a variety of structures such as integral sealing ring (made of the same material), combined sealing ring, surface surfacing hard alloy and sprayed ceramics.
1. Integral sealing ring
Because the sealing ring is made of the same material, the performance of the material is uniform in all parts of the sealing ring, and there is no defect of leakage and separation of the combined sealing ring, and there is no possibility of electrochemical corrosion. Most of the soft rings are made of graphite, and various alloy steels can be used in the manufacture of hard rings, such as bearing steel (GCr9), high-speed steel (W18Cr4V) and other alloy steels (such as 1140Cr, 3Cr13, etc.), and alloy cast iron is also used. (such as silicon, chromium and nickel cast iron). When using these materials, they should be supplemented by appropriate heat treatment process to improve their hardness and wear resistance. These materials are less expensive and, if used properly, have a longer lifespan. In order to further improve the hardness and prolong the service life, it can be made of cemented carbide. The commonly used cemented carbide is cobalt-based tungsten carbide, which has good performance but high price. The price of steel-bonded cemented carbide is lower. In order to improve the corrosion resistance in corrosive media, there is nickel-based tungsten carbide, while Hastelloy has higher corrosion resistance, but it is expensive. In addition, there are sealing rings made of silicon carbide and other ceramic materials.
2. Combined sealing ring
Materials such as tungsten carbide have excellent properties, but high prices and difficult processing limit their use. In order to solve this contradiction, the combined sealing ring has appeared. The sealing end face is made of cemented carbide, and the base body of the sealing ring (called the ring seat) is made of ordinary material. In order to solve the connection and sealing between the cemented carbide ring and the ring seat, four kinds of combined sealing rings are produced: shrink-fit, with sealing ring, welding and brazing.
